Lionsgate have released 2 Tv spots for Gary Ross’ adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger games. I have to say that I only recently read the this book the first of a trilogy (I plan to get through the rest shortly) and really liked it. It was a little like Battle Royale but with more angst, though at least a fair amount of violence to even that out. I’m quite looking forward to seeing this on the big screen and having now read the story and knowing who most of the characters are, I think that some of the casting choices are spot on. I even like the the leads Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson (though they are alot older than they really should be).
Here’s a synopsis:
In a dystopian future America is now Panem, a nation made up of twelve impoverished districts, all ruled by a militant capitol where technology and excess are a way of life. Every year the capitol holds a televised battle royal, where one male and female teenager from the twelve districts must battle to the death for the pleasure of capitol. When a young hunter from District 12 named Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) sacrifices herself to save her little sister from the games, she embarks on a brave fight for survival that could change a nation.
The film will be released on 23rd March and also stars Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Wes Bentley, Toby Jones, Alexander Ludwig, Isabelle Fuhrman, Amandla Stenberg, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland.

As I mentioned before there’s some angst in these books involving love triangles etc and this short looks at the relationship between Katniss and her lifelong friend Gale (every male friend’s favorite word right there).
